Kids today need the camp experience more than ever. Every day brings something new, exciting and challenging; like the power of a positive mentor, the confidence that comes from trying … then succeeding, and the importance of healthy, long-lasting friendships.
The recently renovated YMCA Camp Round Meadow is located along Highway 38 to Big Bear Lake and facilitates YMCA branch youth resident camping in the summer season. Surrounded by large oak trees in a natural valley near the Santa Ana river and nearby Jenks Lake this camp boasts serene beauty in a traditional camp setting. YMCA Camp Round Meadow offers recently remodeled cabins and activities accommodating up to 200 people.
Registration for youth summer resident camp is categorized by the hosting YMCA branch for each week.
GOALS FOR SUMMER CAMPERS
Every summer, YMCA Camping Services has the opportunity, and the responsibility to provide a unique outdoor experience for over 3,000 children. During this one week adventure, there are several goals and desired outcomes for each participant.

The Gardena-Carson YMCA is seeking camp Directors and Counselors for the 2016 Summer Session, July 16-23.
[tabgroup][tab title=”Resident Director”]BASIC ASSIGNMENTS: A person who is at least 25 years of age at the time of camp, who is responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating to prepare to accomplish camp goals. To supervise camp counselors in their daily camp activities, promote a greater understanding and concern for others among the group; promotes and is responsible for the safety and welfare of his/her cabin groups at all times, and keeps in mind the branch’s Mission, Purpose, and Goals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Jobs and Segments:
General
A. Be aware of staff and campers’ needs by observing in groups and in one-on-one situations.
B. Be flexible, open, and honest.
C. Participate in the camp programing.
D. Be aware of your own health and get rest.
E. Put campers’ needs and desires over your own.
F. Be responsible and reliable.
ADMINISTRATION
A. Attends and help implement all camp staff training.
B. Recruits and directs counselors to conduct specific supervisory and camp program responsibilities.
C. Assists with the development and implementation camp program and activities.
D. Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
E. Assist program director in maintaining all necessary records of staff and program participants.
F. Arrive on time on the day of departure for camp.
G. Assist in checking in your groups and loading them on the bus the day of departure for camp.
H. Conducts daily communication with assigned cabin groups.
I. Assist program director in executing a staff appreciation event within one week returning from
J. Assist program director in creating a positive outcome of the branch’s camp standards
SUPERVISION
A. Conducts on the spot first aid when necessary.
B. Helps keep camp clean and demonstrates and teaches a concern for the environment, participates in
C. Involves all group members and promotes teamwork and cabin unity among assigned cabin groups.
D. Demonstrates and promotes cabin spirit and enthusiasm throughout the camp experience.
E. Meets with the program director during the week of camp and relates information to the director
F. Supports counselors to maintain a constant checklist of kids at all times (HEAD COUNT), watches
G. Review and enforce camp rules, teaches safety practices that will result in a safe week.
H. Promotes spirit and enthusiasm throughout the camp experience.
I. Develop feelings of self worth and confidence within the groups.
J. Help children with special problems through positive discipline supporting assigned counselors.
K. Ensure that campers take showers and have good hygiene in your assigned cabin groups.
L. Lead, train, supervise and evaluate assigned camp counselors, cabin clean up. regarding any problems or concerns with the children or cabin groups, for illness and injuries, be aware of health and family problems with children.
PROGRAM
A. Provide support to help cabin groups to be on time to all activities and meals with entire group.
B. Assist camping services staff in the implementation and coordination of camp activities.
C. Brings necessary supplies to camp for related events.
D. Encourage, support and nurture C.I.T’s leadership development and growth.
E. Encourage C.I.T’s participation and leadership in all activities.
F. Know and implement the 6 Pillars of Character.
G. Have a good time.
H. Be a positive role model for children.
I. Model responsibility and citizenship and help as needed. Be a strong team Player.
J. Train and assist counselors on program activities, supporting group activities as needed. (Camp fires,
K. Support cabin groups with the rag program as needed.
CONDUCT
A. As a representative of the YMCA, you are expected to maintain high standards of behavior and Morning inspiration, Rag program, twilight activities etc.). conduct while at camp. In addition, the following rules must be followed without exception:
1. No Narcotics
2. Prescription medication must be checked in with the nurse.
3. No Alcoholic beverages.
4. No sex or sexual conduct at any time.

L. Must stay with your group at all times, includes activities, meals, rest times, etc.
M. Ensure that campers take showers and have good hygiene.

B. Is responsible to control group’s participation at all activities (AT ALL TIMES).
C. Participates at all activity areas, with enthusiasm, archery, swimming, crafts, etc. (unless medical reasons).
D. Brings necessary supplies to camp for related events, Formal Dinner, etc.
E. Encourage, support and nurture C.I.T’s leadership development and growth.
F. Encourage C.I.T’s participation and leadership in all activities.
G. Know and implement the 6 Pillars of Character.
H. Have a good time.
I. Be a positive role model for children.
J. Model responsibility and citizenship and help as needed. Be a strong team Player.
K. Plan activities as a group. (Camp fires, twilight activities etc).
L. Explain to group about RAGS Program.
